Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı gave the first lesson in the 300-hour training program for assistant specialists who have started work at the Ministry.

Minister Nabi Avcı gave the first lesson to the assistant specialists who have started work at the Ministry of National Education at the Başkent Teachers’ House.

Minister Avcı said productive reading can be achieved through books that are not compulsory and advised the assistant specialists to read Erhan Bener’s book “Bürokratlar“,  Şevket Süreyya Aydemir´s book “Suyu Arayan Adam“, Kemal Tahir’s book “Bozkırdaki Çekirdek, Esir Şehrin İnsanları, Devlet Ana“, Sabri Ülgener´s “Tarihte Darlık Buhranları“,  Ahmet Günay Sayar´s “Bir İktisatçının Entelektüel Portresi: Sabri F. Ülgener“, Joseph Needham’s book  “Doğunun Bilgisi Batının Bilimi“ and  Tarık Buğra’s book “Küçük Ağa.

Sharing his memories on Tarık Buğra Minister Avcı said Buğra was the son of a family of Kurdish origin and that his father was a judge at the Court of Heavy Penalties adding “in those days Buğra was a bit of a Kurdish activist. His father found out and when he went home during the summer vacation he took him to a corner and said ‘look you have found a state for free, make the best of it. If you want it so much have a proper education and be a top judge like me, do not waste yourself.’ Then Tarık Buğra listened to his father.”

Minister Avcı said when he was a columnist with a daily newspaper he wanted to write a column of ethnic nationalism and chauvinism he wanted to use this anecdote “so I called him and saked for his permission in case he could be disturbed. He replied “I will be very happy if you do. We need such things these days. So I used it in my article. He was such a wise man.”

 

“You should have a few poets” 

Minister Avcı said reading a poem increase the potential to think and added “I will give you and advise as your elter brother and your master (teacher), you must have poet or poets.”

Minister Avcı said Cahit Kotek is a poet who should be followed carefully and advised the assistant specialists to read the poems of İsmet Özel, Sezai Karakoç, Cemal Süreya, Ece Ayhan, Edip Cansever, Yahya Kemal, Ahmet Haşim and Can Yücel.
