“University goes to the doorstep of our children even in the most remote corners of the country”

Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı accompanying President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the inauguration of the Faruk Saraç Designers Vocational School. The President was accompanied by First Lady Emine Erdoğan, Governor of İstanbul Vasip Şahin, İstanbul Metropolitan Mayor Kadir Topbaş, movie stars Hülya Koçyiğit, Kenan İmirzalıoğlu and many other select guests.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony President Erdoğan said in 2002 there were only 76 universities in Turkey “now with those who have been formally set up by parliamentary decision but who have not been inaugurated there are 193 universities in Turkey. Now you do not have to leave southeastern Turkey and go to the West to try to enter a university. Now universities are going to the doorstep our children even in the most remote corners of the country. Education is being carried to their doorstep. Before the children did not have the financial means to do this, but now they have that chance. Now there will be no young person left who will be denied a university education. From now on the race will not be to get in to a university but to get even a better education. The young people will not go to university just to obtain a diploma but they will go there to increase their talents and abilities.”

Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı said he feels the Faruk Saraç Designers Vocational School is very important for İstanbul and added “I am aware that the executives of the school are already making contacts to introduce international courses at the school. I hope we will be able to host foreign students here within the framework of the Erasmus and Mevlana Exchange Programs.” The minster thanked everyone who contributed to the school and wished the students a good education.

After the speeches the school was inaugurated with the cutting of the ribbon.
